Everyone everywhere knows what a hammock is, what it looks like and what it’s used for. In fact, everyone who knows what a hammock is also knows how to use one. Oh sure, they might fall out once or twice the first time they try to use it, but they understand the basic principal behind the hammock and how they are supposed to use it, in theory. Most people however, know little about the different materials hammocks are made from. As long as it feels comfortable and swings nicely, most people don’t really care to know all the facts about the material that their hammock is made from.
But there are some hammock aficionados out there, who want to know not only what the rope is made of, but also how many strands it has, where was it made and how was it dyed. While they may disagree on who the best hammock maker is, they all agree that the best hammocks are made of 100% soft spun nylon rope, which is the same yarn used to make fishing nets for the fishing industry. It is perhaps the most comfortable and certainly the most durable material. Other materials include Olefin, a synthetic rope product, 100% polyester net, fabric and parachute material.
Everyone has their favorite approach as to the proper usage of a hammock. Some people think that swinging in a hammock is best enjoyed as a social event, with the more the merrier. If you are of this opinion, the extra large hammock is made for you. Other people think that swinging in a hammock is for couples only, a chance to enjoy some quality time together. If this is the case, you and your significant other should fit comfortably in a double hammock. And then there is the “don’t bother me, I’m in my hammock” group. They don’t want anyone near and certainly are not going to share a hammock. For this type user, a single hammock is the only thing that will work.
