Invitations can be plain or elaborate, traditional and classy, or fun and funky, but invitations are of the utmost importance in party planning, for several reasons. The first, and most obvious, reason for sending invitations is to let your friends know there will be a party. The invitation will let them know everything they need to know about the party. The obvious things, like the date and time of the party, but it will also inform them of any other details.
They will learn what the theme of the party will be, if the party is casual or formal, or requires any special clothing, such as formal attire or costumes. It lets the guest know if there is anything special they need to do, or bring to the party. Should they bring photos, game items, gifts, or anything they might not expect to need to bring, such as a recipe and ingredients for a pantry/kitchen bridal shower.
Invitations can hook the guest, pique their interest, and provide them with motivation to come. If they receive a bottle of champagne, wrapped in a velum scripted invitation, tied with confetti and curlicues, they know right away this is probably going to be a New Year’s Eve party, or other celebration, where liquor is going to be served, and will, probably be somewhat formal. If, on the other hand, they receive a construction paper Blues Clues invitation, with floppy pup ears, they know it will most likely be a casual children’s party.
Invitations can be bought already made from party supply stores, department stores, or purchased online, or they can be cleverly designed, handmade custom invitations. Another option that has become increasingly popular is the use of home computers, blank card stock, which also can be purchased at computer stores, online, in department stores, or at party supply stores. The real advantage to computer generated invitations on blank stock is the fact that these are easy, convenient, and can be custom decorated with personalized information or custom graphics.
Just be sure to include all the information the guest will need, including a map, if your party location is difficult to find, and your invitations will set the stage for your party.
